We live in a sinful-scary time in history. As such, we must “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world (1 Peter 5:8-9).
The word “DEVOUR” also describes what the Red Sea did to the pursuing Egyptians (Heb. 11:29). Satan wants to completely drown or swallow up our testimony so as not to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Let’s be careful to avoid and repel that. This verse was written to persecuted Christian’s in the church around 66A.D. God is using this same verse in application for you and I and the church in whole in 2023.
That being said, as we live out life in a sinful-scary world, let’s be encouraged that it’s not the first time and won’t be the last time our adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour-namely you, me and any and all believers in Jesus Christ. With God’s strength, we are able to resist him and remain firm in our faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering have and currently are being experienced by other believers throughout the world (1 Peter 5:8-9).
