As many of you know, I spoke on "God and Government-The Christian's Role In A Morally Bankrupt Culture" this weekend. I will put that up for the community later this week. I asked my good friend and Academic Dean of Southern Evangelical Seminary to please summarize an incredibly powerful talk given by SES President, Phil Ginn, and by permission post it for you all in my community this morning. I pray it blesses, awakens, and moves you as to mission I have decated my life to, that of Reason For Truth, EquippedAcademy.com and prayerfully you as well. Let's jump right in:
Proverbs "14: There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. 13 Even in laughter the heart may ache, and rejoicing may end in grief. 14 The faithless will be fully repaid for their ways, and the good rewarded for theirs. 15 The simple believe anything,Nbut the prudent give thought to their steps."
Story about the Titanic: thought unsinkable, multiple warnings about icebergs, Titanic hits a berg, Phil gives a detailed description of the collision, measures to try and save passengers, life boats only partially full, 500 empty seats. Hundreds died in the icy Waters. Only 2 lifeboats went back to save others.
USS California ignored flares and shut off wireless system. Thought the Titanic's plight was not very serious. The captain, upon hearing about the crash, waited 90 minutes, then spent 4 hours crossing the 5 miles to go help.
History records that the California watched the Titanic sink and did nothing. The work ship Carpathia when they heard the distress signal, they immediately turn around and headed to help over 60 Miles through icy Waters, dangerous seas. The captain pressed every ounce speed from his ship, and made a 4 hour trip in 3 hours dodging 6 major icebergs.
The ship was prepared to receive survivors. They rescued the survivors and turned back to NY. The California showed up right as the last survivors were loaded onto the Carpathia. Our culture is traveling a path of ease and ignored the warnings of the gospel. Our churches preach cheap grace, Bibles are unread, we are a generation confused by our salvation and unprepared to rescue others.
We are on a collision course with Truth. We are self reliant and scared to death simultaneously. Many churches are like the California, paralyzed with fear and indecision. We cannot allow souls to perish as we sit idly by. In Liverpool, a billboard on one side said "Lost" other said "Saved" , end tally 700 Saved, 1500 Lost.
