I am getting to know a CEO of an international company, and when I asked him if he was on vacation visiting family or on business travel, his response was, “ALL BUSINESS…I have no family…lone wolf”.
I thought about that for a moment and prayed how the Lord might have me respond. As a result, I replied to him, “Not having it…we are Italian family” (he is Italian). How sad to see such an accomplished, wealthy man be so poor in all the best ways.
I can see a hard outer shell of a man in need of God’s love, and the love of others in his life. I see this as a wonderful opportunity to share the truth and love of Jesus Christ through my life and God’s Word with this gentleman.
This morning I read Mark 3:33-35 and realized the stark contrast in how financially wealthy and professionally accomplished this gentleman is, but sadly, just how poor he really is in things that matter most. It then hit me just how rich I am in the love of God and with incredibly godly-great men family and friends in my life despite having much less financial ability less we once did. The trade off is so worth having more of the things that truly matter most.
In Mark 3:33-35 Jesus says, “And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”
In this short passage, Jesus makes clear that those who belong to God’s family are closer to Jesus than His natural family. In many if not most cases this is true for you and I as well.
Of course Jesus is God, and as God, He owns everything. But in human form…I would assert that based in this passage, Jesus was, is, and always will be the richest man to ever walk the earth in human form. But it’s been way from eternity through the eternal fellowship of the Trinity. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit (the Trinity) is not only a beautiful model for how we can work together in fellowship, but also a tangible road map of how you and I can edify each other as believers in the family of God. If will do that…the world will then say to us… “Not having it…I want what you have in friendship as a reflection of your fellowship with the Father, through His Son Jesus Christ, alive with the Holy Spirit. Think about that. Meditate on that. “Being” is more often better than “doing”. Make sure to stop throughout your day to “be” with others in light of fellowship and love. And the make sure to share that love with others as they look for Jesus as the true liar treasure.
In closing I want to leave you with Luke 15:8-10 The Parable of the Lost Coin which says this:
“Or what woman, having ten silver coins,if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it?And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
In the end, remember, JESUS IS THE RICHEST MAN IN ALL THE RIGHT WAYS…and we are the heirs of His inheritance. Let’s share those those riches with one another and others yet to know Him. If it’s up to Him…nobody will be left alone to be a “lone wolf” without the riches of good friends family.
