In the 21st Century, we tend to avoid “speaking out for the Truth" in an effort to avoid conflict with others-even in the face of evil.
In his book, “Nearing Home”, at the age of 92, Evangelist Billy Graham wrote, “We cannot make others heed what we say, but we can and should speak out for the truth and pray that the Lord will open ears, minds, and hearts to what wisdom has to say. The Bible declares”…
“Remember the days of old, Consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, and he will show you; Your elders, and they will tell you. (Deuteronomy 32:7 ESV/NKJV)
Each day, you wake up with more knowledge than you had yesterday. Your wisdom makes you an inspiration for younger generations. "Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old," says Job 12:12, reminding us of the value of speaking with older adults. 1 Kings 12:6 tells us that Solomon once sought the expertise of older men who helped him make important decisions about the kingdom of Israel. King Rehoboam follows Solomon's lead, asking his elders, "How do you think I should answer the people?" What if we fail to speak to younger generations? Older adults should not remain silent, but all the more, “Speak The Truth” of God and His ways.
WHAT IF YOUNGER GENERATIONS DON’T LISTEN TO OR SEEK THE WISDOM OF OLDER-MORE WISE MEN AND WOMEN? WE ARE TO LEAD BY EXAMPLE AND YOUNGER PEOPLE ARE TO HAVE A TEACHABLE HEART: The Bible says we should honor our elders. Elihu did not always agree with Job's actions, nor did he appreciate the arrogance of Job's other friends. However, in Job 32:4, Elihu waits until Job finishes speaking to voice his criticism because he feels it's the right thing to do as a younger man.
Both young and old are called to listen to the Lord and one another, but also to “SPEAK OUT FOR THE TRUTH”
With 92 years of wisdom, Bill Graham was wise to say, “We cannot make others heed what we say, but we can and should speak out for the truth and pray that the Lord will open ears, minds, and hearts to what wisdom has to say, citing Deuteronomy: “Remember the days of old, Consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, and he will show you; Your elders, and they will tell you. (Deuteronomy 32:7 ESV/NKJV). This is the ONLY way to a better world. Let’s start today-both young and old alike. Let’s start SPEAKING OUT FOR THE TRUTH in a tastefully, loving and truthful way.-Steven Garofalo
